Keep the battery away from water. If I happened to be riding on uneven surface or off-road, then I’ll check the tightness as soon as I get home. As mentioned earlier, e-scooters do not go well with high temperatures or water. Specific time frame for lube & grease will really depend on your riding conditions. Nuts and bolts. I usually tighten a few nuts and bolts every two months or so. I personally usually don’t worry too much about an occasional rain drizzle or direct sunlight, but it is not my habit to constantly leave my trotinette electrique out in the sun or rain. Avoid riding in the rain, but if you must, then avoid puddles. Storage. Keep your e-scooter indoors, whenever you can. The more dirt and water your e-scooter was exposed to, the sooner you will need to grease it. For these reasons, they should be kept away from direct sunlight and rain. Lube. You should lube the rolling mechanism approximately every 3 months.
I’ve ridden a conventional kick scooter many times, and must admit that they’re lots of fun. They have been designed with a different purpose in mind, and it is perfectly fine. Whether you are a regular commuter, or use your e-scooter for an occasional quick and fun trip to a local grocery store, there may come a time when you will need to kick it manually or, more likely, just walk it home. Electronics malfunction. In an e-scooter, the electronics configuration is not exceedingly complicated. They’re light and roll freely. This is not the case with electric scooters, which are heavy and cumbersome to operate manually. However, it may occasionally break down and stop the scooter from working properly. Lithium-ion batteries used in today’s electric scooters are high-quality and high-capacity, but they will eventually run out of juice to power your two-wheeler. Dead battery. This is probably the most common reason why e-scooters stop working. Situations in which an electric scooter might need to be used manually?
Privately-owned e-scooters have a completely different lifespan that is nowhere near as short as that of the ride share companies. They are tools of business actively engaged, rain or shine. One of the big names in e-scooters, Xiaomi M365, has been around for nearly 3 years. Besides water, e-scooters are also exposed to dust. Considering that they are not waterproof, most are rated IP54, it’s only a matter of time when water will destroy its electrical components. In most cases, the scooters are not as heavily used as their ride share counterparts, so they last much longer. Water will also negatively affect the electric motor, brakes and wheel bearings. There is not many reports of people dumping their e-scooter. Obviously individual parts break and need to get fixed, but I personally do not know anyone whose M365 would simply die from overuse. I think this is in part due to the fact that private owners take a better care of their electric scooters.
Unfortunately, the features that users want make the scooter heavier. Higher-capacity battery that will allow for a longer range of travel will also weigh considerably more, than a low-quality, low-power battery. A durable heavy-duty frame will weight considerably more than a standard one. They range in size from 11 to 13 inches, for most models. If you try to manually kick the e-scooter, then your feet will be 6 inches apart. Lets assume than an average base plate is about 1 inch thick, then it means that you are standing 6 inches above the ground. A powerful electric motor (some e-scooters have two motors) for more power and higher speed will have a higher mass than a low-power one. Large wheels. The wheels on most electric scooters are relatively large. Consider this, if you are standing on the base plate of an e-scooter with 11 inch wheels, then your feet will be at least 5 inches above the ground. Such positioning can be disregarded for one or two kicks needed to start the scooter, but it will make you tired (especially your knees) quite fast.
How Long Do Electric Scooters Last? Since share companies do not publish information about the longevity of their electric scooter fleet, I searched a bit deeper. Since their introduction people began to hate them, others fell in love with them. I found a smaller ride share company operating in Europe (in countries with both warm and cold climate) that was actively pursuing investors on a franchise basis. Electric scooters have been on the streets for a relatively short period of time. 1-5 months. Privately-owned e-scooters with proper care and maintenance tend to last at least 2-3 years, likely much longer than that. No matter what your views are, you may still be interested in knowing how long a typical e-scooter will last, especially if you are considering purchasing one. Above are the numbers that I came up with and here’s what I did to get them. In order to properly discuss the lifespan of electric scooters, they should first be separated into rideshare and privately-owned scooters, because the difference in the lifespan between the two groups is tremendous.
Since this safety feature is present in nearly all electric scooters available on the market today, it can be safely assumed that, yes, all electric kick scooters can be used manually… It is considerably more difficult to push an e-scooter, in part due to its increased weight. The alloy frame, electric motor (or motors) and the high-power lithium-ion battery. A couple of key components contribute to the overall weight of the e-scooter. Weight. Electric scooters weight considerably more than standard kick scooters. What makes e-scooters unsuited for prolonged manual use? In fact, the average e-scooter has a mass of 15-35 kg, which is far from being considered “light”. While e-scooters can be kicked or pushed manually to move them forward, the process of doing it so is not easy, nor fun, as it is the case with conventional kick scooters. As I explain below, they are not comfortable, nor easy to use manually for longer distances of travel.
Rear fender replacement is an easy fix, as well. Flat or worn tires can also be replaced without professional help, but the process is a bit more complicated. I would suggest that you watch an instructional video that talks about the process of tire replacement specifically for your model of a scooter. In some models you may also have to disconnect and then reconnect the rear light. Depending on your scooter, you will have to unscrew 1-3 screws that are holding the fender. The overall process is straight-forward. I’ve owned my trotinette electrique for nearly two years and have traveled almost 1000 miles (1,530 km) on it. While share e-scooters may only last a few months, individuals who are considering buying one for their private use, should rest assured that with normal use and regular maintenance an electric scooter is expected to last many years. When considering the average lifespan of an electric scooter, one of the key points is to consider how well was the scooter used and maintained.
This has mainly to do with the thread being worn. Fortunately, e-scooter maintenance is not complicated, nor very time-consuming. Worn tires do not hold to the road as well and increase the risk of an accident and injury. Battery. Since the batteries used in today’s electric scooters are lithium-ion, there isn’t a whole lot that you have to do to maintain it properly. I will discuss maintenance in greater detail in a separate post, so at this moment lets just talk about a few main issues. How to improve the lifespan of an electric scooter? Li-ion batteries tend to be particularly sensitive to high temperatures. Dust off and wipe dry the scooter whenever it becomes dirty or wet. Maintenance. Regular maintenance is key at improving the lifespan of almost any device, including electric scooters. Just remember a few things. Keep the battery away from extreme temperatures. It is generally recommended that the tire pressure be checked on a weekly basis.
Extra battery. If a given e-scooter has a factory-installed battery that gives it a range of, for example, 12 miles (20 km). Will adding a second, similar battery double the range? Others choose to take out the one that the e-scooter came with originally, and replace it with a single extra-capacity battery. Both options do work, just not as great as one could imagine. I have seen people attach a second battery to their e-scooters. Tire pressure. Just like in cars, tire pressure in an electric scooter does have an impact on the range of travel. In an ideal world, the answer would be “Yes, the range will double”, but you have to consider the additional weight of the extra battery (and batteries are not light). So, please keep this in mind, before attempting to make any modifications. One important factor to consider is that any modifications made to the e-scooter’s electrical system (including battery), may and will result in voided warranty. The answer is: not quite, but close to double.

Package can also be made by customer’s requirements. Electric kick scooters have been developed with one thing in mind: to significantly improve the ride over that of a conventional kick scooter. For those of you who have never ridden an electric scooter and are considering buying one, thinking that it can be used both manually and with the assistance of electric power, I just want to say that electric scooters are far from being fun, or practical while being used manually. People who use electric scooters do so because they want to get to their destination quickly and with limited tiredness. Please inform us if you need special packaging. In other words, e-scooters are not the best choice for manual operation for an extended period of time. Can Electric Scooters Be Used Manually? All electric kick scooters can be used manually, but the ride is slow, uncomfortable and you will get tired quickly. For these reasons, e-scooters are not optimal at being manually kicked on longer distances.
